DDVTech

DDVTech, the team behind MistServer, is building FrameWorks, a streaming platform that combines the control of self-hosted infrastructure with the reach and convenience of hosted services. Customers can run the full stack, connect their own edge capacity, or use FrameWorks-hosted infrastructure without rebuilding their video operation around a different platform.
To power that hosted and hybrid model, DDVTech partnered with NovoServe for dedicated bare-metal capacity in Europe and North America. Unmetered connectivity keeps bandwidth costs predictable as traffic grows, while full access to the hardware and operating system lets DDVTech tune each server for video delivery. The result is a single platform for both FrameWorks-hosted and customer-run infrastructure, allowing users to add hosted processing when they need it without giving up control of the media pipeline.
Fifteen years of video engineering
DDVTech has spent more than fifteen years solving the problems that off-the-shelf streaming software could not. Its public-domain MistServer toolkit was born after a livestreaming project failed in 2009. Since then, it has powered global CDNs, broadcasters, OTT platforms, enterprise video systems, and large-scale monitoring operations.
The company is still run by the engineers who created MistServer, developing, operating, and supporting the software themselves so customers speak directly with experts who understand their specific video pipelines. FrameWorks grew out of a recurring request from Web3 platforms, security companies, OTT providers, and houses of worship: keep the flexibility and control, but remove the work of building and operating the surrounding infrastructure.

No two video pipelines look the same
Video customers rarely start with a blank slate. They already rely on cameras, encoders, protocols, CDNs, storage systems, and operational workflows. A useful platform must fit into that environment rather than demand a total replacement. For example, a security deployment may need continuous RTSP camera ingest and strict recording policies, while a broadcaster combines SDI, NDI, SRT, and remote contributors. FrameWorks needed broad protocol support and flexible APIs to seamlessly connect those existing pieces.
Knowing a stream is online is not enough. Operators need to see ingest health, processing, routing, delivery, and the player experience to understand which edge served a viewer and exactly where packet loss or rebuffering began. Furthermore, workloads must run in the optimal location. Sensitive camera feeds may need to remain on customer infrastructure, while public broadcasts require hosted delivery close to viewers.
Video also creates sustained infrastructure demand. Transcoding consumes compute, recording consumes storage, and every additional viewer generates more outbound traffic. Whether running a continuous security system or broadcasting a major live event, the process becomes financially unsustainable when every gigabyte delivered carries an additional fee. FrameWorks required predictable costs for both continuous workloads and sudden audience peaks.
A transatlantic bare-metal backbone
After benchmarking several infrastructure providers under sustained video load, DDVTech selected NovoServe for its consistent performance, reliable connectivity, and competitive pricing. NovoServe’s dedicated bare-metal servers provide FrameWorks with high-performance capacity for ingest, delivery, recording, and local media processing. The FrameWorks control plane actively monitors stream availability, server health, and current load, seamlessly directing viewers to the most suitable location across both NovoServe servers and customer-run edge nodes.
The initial deployment launched with 2Gbps Premium Unmetered uplinks on dedicated ports. This architecture allows FrameWorks to handle massive viewership spikes and heavy encoding tasks without hitting a bandwidth wall or incurring overage fees, leveraging capacity in Europe and North America to serve traffic locally.

Why build on bare metal?
DDVTech’s benchmarks showed the best results came from infrastructure that mirrored MistServer’s architecture. MistServer isolates inputs, outputs, viewer connections, and processing steps into separate processes that share media through memory. This setup requires high CPU core counts, making NovoServe’s Dual Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC systems a strong fit by providing consistent performance without noisy neighbors.
Because MistServer is highly efficient at repackaging media, delivery workloads usually exhaust network capacity before maxing out CPU or memory. Dedicated Premium Unmetered ports allow FrameWorks to push maximum throughput without triggering per-gigabyte egress charges. These ports plug directly into NovoServe’s 19+ Tbps network, backed by over 800 peering partners and top Tier-1 carriers.
Each server includes 64 GB of dedicated memory tailored for MistServer’s shared stream buffers, caching, and local processing, enabling DDVTech to plan precise capacity around real workloads rather than shifting between expensive cloud instance tiers. Finally, IPMI provides remote power and recovery access, while root OS control allows the engineering team to deploy custom builds and tune network buffers, kernel settings, and TCP behavior strictly for live-video delivery.
