Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP): Take Full Control of Your IPs

Larger businesses need more than standard IP assignments—NovoServe’s BYOIP support lets you use your own IP space with full flexibility and no extra cost.

Smaller companies without a dedicated networking team can simply purchase IPv4 and IPv6 addresses together with their server order at NovoServe—an easy and straightforward option. However, more advanced users, such as enterprises, infrastructure resellers, and service providers, often prefer to use their own IP address space for greater control. That’s where BYOIP (Bring Your Own IP) comes in.

NovoServe fully supports BYOIP for both IPv4 and IPv6, allowing you to announce your own IP prefixes under your own ASN (Autonomous System Number) on our high-performance bare metal infrastructure. Whether you operate a VPN service, run a hosting business, or manage an AdTech platform, BYOIP gives you the ability to maintain full ownership, protect your IP reputation, and ensure operational consistency across your deployments.

What Is BYOIP?

Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP) refers to the ability to use your own IP address space with a third-party hosting provider or cloud infrastructure. Instead of relying on IP addresses assigned by the provider, you retain your own blocks of IPv4 and/or IPv6 addresses, which are then announced via BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) on the hosting provider’s network infrastructure. This means that while your servers are physically hosted by a provider like NovoServe, your traffic uses IP addresses that belong to your organization.

With BYOIP, your hosting provider announces your IP addresses on your behalf using their network, allowing seamless connectivity while keeping you in control of your IP reputation and routing. Typically, this setup requires a Letter of Authorization (LOA) to verify ownership of the IP ranges, and the creation of ROA (Route Origin Authorizations) and IRR records to validate routing announcements. For companies that rely on consistent IP branding and technical trust, BYOIP is an essential feature.

The Benefits of Bringing Your Own IP

There are several reasons why medium and larger organizations choose to bring their own IPs instead of using those provided by their hosting vendor. One of the most critical advantages is operational continuity. When you move to a new hosting provider, having your own IPs allows you to avoid any DNS changes, whitelisting issues, or third-party service interruptions. Your customers and systems can keep relying on the same IPs even when your infrastructure changes behind the scenes.

Another major benefit is avoiding dirty or recycled IPs. IP reputation plays a crucial role in industries like email marketing, VPN, gaming, or AdTech, where being blacklisted can seriously impact delivery and access. By using your own clean IP space, you eliminate the risks associated with previously abused or blacklisted IPs assigned by a provider.

Branding and trust are also important factors. If your business offers white-label services or relies on strong identity control, having your own IP addresses creates consistency and authenticity across your services. Your customers can whitelist or monitor IPs associated with your brand—not someone else’s ASN or IP pool.

Moreover, BYOIP gives you full flexibility. You decide when and where to announce your prefixes, but also have the right to withdraw the IP announcements. If you're a global company using multiple data centers, you can manage traffic routing and failover strategies more effectively with your own IP blocks. For resellers and infrastructure providers, this control is often non-negotiable.

How to Set Up BYOIP with Hosting Providers

Setting up BYOIP with a hosting provider typically involves a few technical steps. First, you need to ensure that your IP blocks are officially allocated to you by a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) like RIPE NCC, ARIN, or APNIC. Then, you'll need to request a Letter of Authorization (LOA) that allows your provider to announce the IP prefixes from their infrastructure.  For routing validation and security, you’ll also need to request that a Route Origin Authorisation (ROA) is created under your RIR account.

Some hosting providers charge a fee for BYOIP support, which can vary depending on complexity or the size of the IP blocks. At NovoServe, we support BYOIP free of charge. We strongly encourage clients to bring their own IP addresses and enjoy full control. Unlike some large hosting vendors that do not allow clients to advertise their IP prefixes under their own ASN or restrict IP-related configurations, NovoServe provides full support for both IPv4 and IPv6 BYOIP setups. You can announce your IPs with your own ASN, and we handle the BGP session setup, including configuration and monitoring.

If you don’t have your own ASN or are unsure how to get one, our network team can assist or connect you with the right resources. Whether you're a seasoned ISP or a growing infrastructure provider, NovoServe gives you the freedom and tools to grow on your own terms.
