VPN server connects the world

Case study

AmneziaVPN

Amnezia enables digital freedom with the bare metal infrastructure of NovoServe. It hosts AmneziaWG on NovoServe, and scales to 1M+ users without virtualization lag.

Industry: VPN

The origin: democratising privacy

Amnezia began as an open-source tool enabling users to build their own VPNs on their own servers. As they expanded their mission to offer Premium and Business solutions, they needed a infrastructure partner for VPN providers that could match their technical agility. NovoServe provided the affordable, reliable bare metal backbone required to support Amnezia’s unique anti-censorship protocols for over 1 million users.

Amnezia was founded in 2020 with a distinct philosophy: privacy should be accessible to everyone, regardless of technical skill. Originally, they didn't sell a service; they built an open-source client that automated the complex process of setting up a VPN on a user's own VPS.

As the product evolved, Amnezia identified a gap: not everyone wants to manage their own server. To serve a broader audience, they needed to launch Amnezia Premium and Business tiers—centralized services that required their own massive, high-performance infrastructure

Finding a partner, not just a vendor

Scaling from a client-side tool to a service provider presented new hurdles. Amnezia needed to deploy nodes that could handle their custom obfuscation protocols (designed to bypass Deep Packet Inspection) without incurring the exorbitant egress fees or rigid support structures of major hyperscalers.

Their requirements were straightforward but critical: cost-efficiency to keep their service free or affordable for users in restrictive regions; agility as they needed a team that reacted fast. In the VPN industry, downtime isn't just an inconvenience; it can mean a loss of access to information for thousands of users.

"We were looking for an affordable and reliable provider with fast support," said the Amnezia team, "and then we found NovoServe."

Quote from AmneziaVPN

"Amnezia was originally created as an open-source app that lets you build your own VPN on your own server. We designed it to be simple and intuitive, so anyone could set up a highly private VPN in just a few steps."

Bare metal server

The solution: NovoServe bare metal

Amnezia chose NovoServe to anchor their expanding network. We deployed high-performance dedicated servers capable of supporting AmneziaWG (their fork of the WireGuard protocol) and other intensive traffic-masking technologies. NovoServe’s bare metal servers provide the raw CPU power needed to run complex obfuscation layers that disguise VPN traffic as regular HTTPS packets. Unlike bureaucratic cloud giants, NovoServe’s engineers function as an extension of Amnezia’s team. When Amnezia asks, we answer.

Today, Amnezia serves over 1+ million app downloads globally. Their infrastructure on NovoServe operates with the stability required for both casual streaming and critical information access. The partnership has allowed Amnezia to focus on software innovation—like refining their split-tunneling features and anti-DPI tech—while we handle the metal.

NovoServe's infrastructure has been proven to be scalable and reliable. Amnezia is "continuing our partnership and there is no doubt on this matter." Our responsive technical support is so greatly valued by Amnezia. "If there are any issues or questions raised, support team resolves them very fast and asap."

Build your VPN infrastructure

Amnezia trusts NovoServe to keep the internet open for over a million users. Are you ready scale your VPN service? Our engineers are here to architect a dedicated solution that guarantees your performance.

The result: global reliability

Amnezia’s success demonstrates that achieving global reliability and censorship resistance does not require the exorbitant costs or complexity of public cloud. Instead, the decisive factor is partnering with a provider that treats support as a critical feature—where rapid human response times match the urgency of the security landscape.

By leveraging NovoServe’s dedicated bare metal, technical leaders gain the kernel-level control necessary to deploy custom protocols like AmneziaWG, ensuring they can bypass Deep Packet Inspection and scale effortlessly without the interference of virtualization layers.
