Server and Datacenter Engineer
⏰ 13-05-2026 📍Amsterdam, NL
At NovoServe, we are looking for an enthusiastic Data Center Engineer. Do you enjoy working with server and network hardware, and do you get energy from troubleshooting and resolving technical issues? Then you might be the person we are looking for!
About NovoServe
NovoServe provides hosted dedicated servers to clients worldwide from multiple data centers in the Netherlands. We are a fast-growing company with an informal atmosphere and international ambitions. We invest heavily in automation to scale rapidly and provide our customers with optimal service. To facilitate our rapid growth, we develop our own proprietary systems for IaaS delivery. For instance, we build our own systems to manage thousands of servers and offer a custom API that allows our clients to use our services even faster and more efficiently.
Core of the role
As a Data Center Engineer, you are responsible for building, installing, and delivering our servers. You ensure everything runs stably by managing our racks, connecting cabling, and patching fiber optics.
Furthermore, you will:
- Interpret tickets in the system and take action where necessary;
- Handle and execute requests from both customers and colleagues;
- Manage inventory and stock levels;
- Document, register, and maintain up-to-date records of all installations;
- Propose improvements to optimize work processes.
What do you bring to the table?
You are a hands-on professional who isn't afraid to roll up your sleeves. You have experience in assembling and configuring servers from scratch. Moreover, you are committed to continuous self-development and take full responsibility for the quality of your work. Your strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with colleagues and acting as the first point of contact for our customers.
Your profile:
- You have at least an MBO (vocational) level of professional and intellectual ability, preferably supplemented by a few years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- You have solid knowledge of servers, operating systems, and (network) cabling.
- You have hands-on experience with server assembly (bare metal).
- You are willing to participate in on-call shifts (consignatiediensten).
- You are proactive and possess strong communication skills in both Dutch and English.
Additional requirements:
- Basic knowledge of Linux.
- A valid category B driver’s license.
- General knowledge of operating systems (experience is a plus).
- Availability for 40 hours per week and living in or near the Amsterdam region.
What we offer:
- A gross salary of up to €4,000 per month (based on a 40-hour work week), depending on knowledge and experience.
- Additional compensation for on-call shifts.
- Experienced colleagues who support your professional growth.
- 25 vacation days per year.
- Weekly organized team lunches.
- Quarterly social events.
- The opportunity to work in a lean organization where you can truly make an impact.

Insights into the server engineer role
We welcome anyone who has affinity with IT and passion for the server engineer job. Please feel free to speak with our HR. Below you can find more insights into the Server Engineer job at NovoServe.
What does a server engineer do at NovoServe?
Server Engineer is the bridge between the hardware and the customer's application. You are the expert on what happens once the power button is pressed. At NovoServe, this means managing the software lifecycle of bare metal. You ensure that our automated deployment systems correctly install Linux or Windows distributions and that the server is perfectly tuned for the customer's specific workload, whether it's for AI, AdTech, or Big Data.
Do I need to have professional experiences as a server engineer to apply?
We value knowledge, but we value a "logical mindset" even more. If you are an IT hobbyist who loves experimenting with virtual machines, setting up your own web servers, or writing scripts to automate boring tasks, you have the right foundation. We don't expect you to know every command by heart on day one. We have a specialized engineering team to mentor you. If you have a solid understanding of how operating systems work and a hunger to learn about automated IaaS environments, we will help you become an expert.
What does a typical day look like for a Server Engineer?
No two days are identical. One morning you might be investigating why a specific batch of servers isn't PXE-booting correctly or fine-tuning a custom OS image for a client. In the afternoon, you might shift to high-level troubleshooting—perhaps diagnosing a kernel panic or optimizing network throughput on a 100Gbps interface. You work at the intersection of system administration and infrastructure automation.
How does this role support NovoServe’s automation?
Automation is our core differentiator. As a Server Engineer, you aren't just manually installing servers one by one. You are part of the team that ensures our API and internal provisioning tools work flawlessly. You help ensure that when a customer orders a server, our systems can deliver a fully functional, secured environment within minutes. You play a vital role in making our global infrastructure scalable and "smart."
Why is this role located in the Amsterdam region?
Even though much of your work can be done remotely, you are part of our core technical hub in Amsterdam. Because our server engineers can also have on-call duties to solve critical issues, we require our team members to live within a reasonable distance of our primary operations center to collaborate effectively with the on-site datacenter team.
