Linux System Engineer

⏰ 28-08-2025      📍The Netherlands

NovoServe is looking for an experienced, operations-focused Linux System Engineer to strengthen our team and help us scale our infrastructure while keeping everything running smoothly.

Our company

NovoServe is an entrepreneurial, tech-driven IaaS provider headquartered in the Netherlands. We deliver high-performance, scalable bare-metal servers on a secure and resilient platform.

With global expansion as one of our key ambitions, we're bringing our services to customers across all industries around the world. Our infrastructure consists of about 7000 of our own physical servers that we use for our customers and our own systems. All of this is distributed across 5 data centers on two continents, ensuring high availability, resilience, and global reach. We have over 16Tb of external connectivity through dozens of direct peering partners.

We would like to expand our team with an experienced Linux System Engineer to help us accelerate further improvements, while keeping everything running smoothly.

Your role within our team

We are specifically looking for a Linux System Engineer who enjoys working on the intersection of DevOps and IT operations, combining modern DevOps technologies such as Containers and Ansible, with improvements in operational stability and monitoring.

You will join our small, enthusiastic, and experienced team responsible for maintaining and further developing the core infrastructure that powers NovoServe in a scalable, reliable and secure way. You collaborate closely with DevOps, Developers, and Network engineers and will be involved in incident management (including participation in on-call and standby duties).

With your experience and skills, you contribute to further development, but also take initiative in enhancing our proactive monitoring, incident handling and overall system reliability. In case something does go wrong, you don’t just fix the problem, but also have a keen eye for root cause analysis combined with a motivation to prevent future regressions. You prefer monitoring of causes over monitoring of symptoms, and preventative improvements over incident handling where possible.

Your profile

You are an enthusiastic Linux System Engineer with a strong sense of responsibility who thrives on continuously improving systems and likes to avoid solving the same problem twice. You have strong analytical skills that help you gain insight into dependencies, identify weak links, and effectively resolve any issues that arise.

We value good communication skills in English (both verbally and in writing); B level Dutch is a bonus. You are a team player, but you don’t shy away from individually taking initiative on urgent incidents when needed.

Of course a Linux system holds few secrets for you. Additionally, you have hands-on experience with DevOps automation tools such as Ansible. Experience with monitoring systems like Zabbix or Prometheus is also part of your skill set.

Experience with one or more of the following topics is a plus:

  • virtualization (Proxmox)

  • containers (Kubernetes, Docker)

  • programming/scripting (Python, Shell scripting)

  • CI/CD (GitHub Actions)

We offer the following

  • a salary up to € 5.500,- gross per month (based on a 40-hour work week), depending on knowledge and experience, supplemented with compensation for participation in the on-call duty rotation;

  • part-time work possible;

  • free lunch in our own pub;

  • opportunity to attend conferences;

  • opportunity to obtain certifications in your field.

Our main office is located in Enschede, but our team includes colleagues from all across the Netherlands. That’s why we work partly remote - it gives everyone flexibility. At the same time we enjoy working together in person regularly at least once a week.
